The Love Verse

THE LOVE VERSE

By Leann Albrecht

It’s funny to me how some verses take on new meaning as we mature in the Lord. For instance, these “love” verses from I Cor. 13:4-8. In the twenty seven years of being married to Carl, each time I read them, I often felt worse afterwards than I did before I read them. Why? Because I used these verses to measure my own ability to love Carl and others….and I always fell short of what I wanted to be. The reality is, I am incapable of loving to the fullest measure that is described here. I was looking at this scripture from the wrong vantage point. Only God Is perfect love

I Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV) Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails – never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end.

One day the Lord said to me, “Why don’t you stop reading these verses to measure yourself. Instead, read them as my measure of love TO YOU. For I alone am perfect love. You can only have this kind of love through me.”

So I wrote out these four verses as the Lord instructed me. I was astonished at how much more loved I felt as His words sank in. The Lord reminded me that only when I am full of His love, can I give it away. It’s difficult to give away something you don’t have.

You may want to read this aloud as I did….allowing His love to sink deep into your heart….to the deepest part that needs to hear how much you are loved. When you become His child, this is His promise to you. The key is to continually receive and be filled with His love…every day. This is what the Lord is saying to you today….

I am patient…. with you

I am kind…. to you

I am not rude…. to you

I am not easily angered… with you

I keep no records of…. your wrongs

I do not delight in evil but rejoice in truth.. with you

I will always protect…. you

I will always hope…. in you

I will always persevere…. for you

I will never fail…. you

I would love for you to hear the song I wrote about His love called “Boundless Love” from “You Are The One”  CD. Hear the song

  1. Hello,
Thank you so much for writing this article. I have forgotten this scripture chpt and verses, for sometimes now i have being trying to search it out from my bible all to no avail. But thanks to you for compiling this article with this TOPIC. I needed this scripture bcos i felt im not love n i needed true love. And i want to seek that true love in God because in HIM is perfect love and unconditional love. The love of human is conditional becos, we always want something in return for our love but God’s love is not like that. We humans has not really love God has HE has loved us, we love Him bcos He provide our needs, protects, shelters, answers our prayers, and even sent his son to be the means by which our sins is forgiven. But the truth is, no man has ever render to God equal love as HE had and has and is still rendering His love to us to this very day. I had cried to God for my needs such as during my days in university with financial sort, breakthrough, marital delay, connections and many others. Humans don’t just fall in love with God at for sight as two lovers does but we claim to love God bcos we are seeking something from Him. But in reality we can’t see God face to face but the people around us should be the one we should show that love. God bless you Aunt Leanne for this your article, at least my kind of relieved now for sharing my mind even though im still waiting on God to perfect his work in me.

  2. wow…as you’ve said Leann.we cant love with our own ability and as human we cant love to the fullest.
Let me encourage you Ebby.. Gods love cannot be compared to human way of love. There may be truth in what you say that human love cos they want something in return..but that shldnt be why we love one another.
John 13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another…”
if you know how God wants you to love, then teach others to love the same.Dont look at others but look at yourself and God.Hes not finished with you yet.
