Moist Holiday Turkey

By Leann Albrecht

Is your holiday turkey as succulent as it smells?  Try my unconventional way to bake a turkey that makes every bite juicy.

1 turkey (10-15 pounds)

2 sticks of softened butter (1 cup)

1 large brown paper bag (I use a plain Kroger grocery bag) and closing clip

1 bottle of dry white wine

Rub one entire stick of butter on and inside of the turkey. Generously salt and sprinkle turkey with your favorite spices. You may “stuff” the bird if desired.

Rub the other stick of butter on the inside of the paper bag. Place the turkey inside the bag and close.  I use a wooden clothes pin. Place the bag into a roaster.

Pour the entire bottle of dry white wine over the bag and tightly cover the roaster.

Cook at 275 degrees until turkey is done.

NOTE: Baking the turkey at the lower temperature will add to your cooking time so make allowances for the extra time it takes to bake.  Then allow the bird to sit for at least 15 minutes before carving it.

Sounds like a delicious recipe. Will try it sometime.
I’ve been doing smoked turkey several times now. Brining it overnight, dusting it with herbs, and then smoking it with hickory chips at about 225 in the smoker for about 6 hours. Turns out great every time.

    • Hi Ben…..
Ohhh that sounds great too. I haven’t tried that yet but I have heard from a few that it is delicous! I’m sure it’s a nice change up from the traditional way of cooking a turkey.
      Thanks for your note.
      Have a great Christmas Season!
